The available photon counting detectors include photomultiplier tubes (PMT), Hybrid photomultiplier detectors (HPD) and Single Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPAD) that cover different spectral ranges between the UV and the NIR. All detectors feature timing resolutions in the picosecond range, depending on model and operating conditions. The following table gives a rough overview about the key parameters:
| PMA Series | PMA Hybrid Series | PDM Series |
Timing resolution (FWHM) | <180 ps | <50 ps to <160 ps | <50 ps to <250 ps |
Detection efficiency maximum | 40% at 400 nm | 45% at 500 nm | 49% at 550 nm |
Spectral range | 185 nm to 920 nm | 220 nm to 890 nm | 400 nm to 1100 nm |
Size of active area | 8 mm | 3, 5 or 6 mm | 20, 50 or 100 µm |
